For 78 years, Atlanta has had a ballet company of its owna Company that has truly embodied the spirit, resilience and joy of this city. Were the Company we are today thanks to the vision, grace and stamina of pioneer Dorothy Alexander, who was the very first in the nation to believe that smaller communities could have their own dance companies. In 1929, she launched the Dorothy Alexander Concert Group (rehearsals were held in her garage), which later became the Atlanta Civic Ballet and finally, in 1967, Atlanta Ballet. Miss Dorothy guided her dance company for more than three decades before hand picking her successor, the brilliant Robert Barnett. And I followed Robert, being named the Companys third Artistic Director in 1994. Much has changed since 1929. Today, Atlanta Ballet is one of the nations premier professional ballet companies, recognized for the artistry of our dancers and our innovative programming. We are as diverse and provocative as the city we call home.

For 13 years, John McFalls artistic vision has gracefully guided Atlanta Ballet as it continues to grow as one of the premiere dance companies in the United States. In that time, his imaginative and innovative programming has inspired audiences throughout Georgia, the Southeast and even New York City. A hallmark of Johns has been his collaborative spirit which has fused the art of dance with such performers as the Indigo Girls, the Red Clay Ramblers, The Michael ONeal Singers, and Newbirth Missionary Baptist Church. Through these creative partnerships, John and the Company have stayed in step with the vibrancy of the city of Atlanta. In 2008, John is breaking new ground by bringing together another Atlanta legend, Big Boi of OutKast, who will perform onstage with the fabulous Atlanta Ballet dancers. John has opened the door for tomorrows dancers through the Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education, where hundreds of young dancers are able to experience the joy of dance for themselves. The Centre has produced many professional dancers who have gone on to join Joffery, Alvin Ailey and even 12 who have joined the ranks of the Atlanta Ballet professional company. The Centre also provides outreach initiatives that brings dance to thousands of students throughout metro Atlanta each year. He is committed to building a distinctive profile with the highest standards for the Company and students.
